Growing up in Western North Carolina, I never had a chance to hunt ducks early in life due to very limited opportunities for waterfowl in that area. I cut my hunting teeth on dove and squirrel hunting which eventually included deer, bear, and wild boar hunting with family in the mountains of Western North Carolina. My freshman year at NC State University was also the beginning of my waterfowl hunting passion. My first duck hunt consisted of me and a new buddy walking a creek and jump shooting Wood Ducks. Our journey ended at the mouth of a fairly new lake where we jumped a few hundred mallards and black ducks. No waders, frozen toes, lots of empty shells, and my first 3 ducks harvested only fueled my new love.

22 waterfowl seasons have now come and gone since that fateful morning, and quite honestly, I enjoy duck hunting more today than I ever have. The days of always shivering in the duck blind have also come and gone thanks to great products like those from Drake Waterfowl. All of my hunting buddies and I fell in love with the first Drake products we purchased. Since then I have only great things to say about anything I have ever bought from Drake Waterfowl.

My love for the outdoors led me to pursue and achieve a B.S. degree in Wildlife Management from NC State University, followed up by a B.S. in Science Education also from NC State. Teaching and coaching baseball and basketball became my first real job, but soon the entrepreneur in me came out. Now, while not chasing ducks, I chase after sales people for Biotech companies all over the United States and Internationally. I started my own headhunting business in late 2000 called Biotech Search Group, Inc. We specialize in helping Biotech companies find high level sales professionals and scientific personnel. My schedule allows me some freedoms which I use to indulge my waterfowl hunting. Mainly we hunt in the numerous beaver swamps surrounding our area and in particular we lease a productive swamp in the Northeastern part of North Carolina. I also enjoy a few trips every year to hunt with friends in the Midwest, New Jersey and "Down East" in North Carolina.

As stated above, this past year (2007-08 season) brought to an end a seven year "Quest" to harvest a mature Bull Sprig. Through numerous and sometimes hilarious adventures, my quest ended this year during a rare lake freeze up here in NC. To go along with the nature of the quest, my trophy flew away seemingly unharmed and fell out dead 5-600 yards out in the lake. After breaking ice and slugging through shin deep mud for one solid hour, I got back to the blind with the "Quest".
